What Is Scoliosis?

Learn about the symptoms and treatment options for scoliosis.

The spine has a natural curve to it, noticeable when viewing it from the side. It is this curve that makes it possible for us to walk, run, play and do all the other amazing things we’re capable of while standing upright. When looking at the spine from the back, there is no curve. It should look like a straight line.

This is not the case for people who suffer from scoliosis. Instead of a straight line, the spine has an S-shaped curve. In many cases, this irregular curvature is mild, and hardly noticeable, but there are instances where it is severe enough to cause deformities in the person’s posture, with accompanying issues like back pain and difficulty breathing.
